Jan Kusters, born in 1960, went through a training as professional photographer between 1978 and 1982 at the Nederlandse Fotovakschool, and was trained as arts and crafts teacher between 1982 and 1987 at the Nieuwe Leraren Opleiding Sittard. Between 1987 en 1992 he had a studio at artcentre 'De Melkfrabriek' in Sittard and participated in several exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad. After that, he took a 15 year retreat in which he only 'worked for his own sake'. In this period, no work left his home, and he did not participate in any shows. After several journey's and a growing interest in the landscape surrounding humans, he started a new series of small landscape paintings in 2005. This series pushed him to leave his retreat from the art world. For now the series includes landscapes from Limburg (the Netherlands), Norway and France.
